Check out Turner Broadcastings new Broadband network “SuperDeluxe.com” Fred Willard of Christopher Guest film fame. A funny female comedian named Kelly McFarland and myself play an anchor team covering “The Miss Hawaiian Tropic Pageant.” It’s some funny stuff. We shot it this past October in Hawaii but could not talk about it until Turner launched “Super Deluxe.”
Well, I didn’t do too badly on my Oscar predictions. The show was way too long and what was it with the shadow people? Ellen is getting rave reviews for her hosting job and the New York Observer called I the year of the “Red Carpet Munchers.” Hey that’s their headline not mine and you have to admit it is funny.
More than a year ago I wrote how Hi-Def TV is going to change the way a lot of stars look on camera and it happened this year. Poor Cameron Diaz she can’t hide her complexion anymore, but give Peter O’Toole a break. He’s allowed to look like an old man, Hell! He is an old man.
“Wild Hogs” got horrible reviews, so did “The Astronaut Farmer.” I enjoyed both of them. There are times you just go to the movies to be entertained and nitpick at every silly thing.
Both films cross the cornball line but who cares just let your brain take a break. Besides in some places if you go during the day there is a matinee rate. Personally, I go for the Senior Citizen discount when I can get it.
The one thing I have no control over though, is eating at the movies. Giant tubs of popcorn, gallon drink containers. The crunching, the rattling of cellophane and ice cubes as the “Lard-O’s” suck every last drop of soda out of the cup drives me crazy. Can’t Americans go for two hours without stuffing their faces? Check out John Heilpern’s article about this in the January 15th issue of The New York Observer.” Says it best.
One last thing. Speaking of movies. Check out “Black Snake Moan.” Samuel L. Jackson is terrific and Christina Ricci is even greater. She is one day going to be recognized as one films greatest actresses. She has come a long way from “Wednesday” in the “Addam’s Family.”
Next time I’ll add pictures to go with these stories. My faithful helper Andy quit and I don’t know how to do the picture thing myself. Heck! I’m lucky I can get this far.
