Do you think Orville Redenbackers kids called him Pop?
Anyway, off to the movies.
I actually wrote this several weeks ago after attending a screening. If you haven’t seen “Fantastic Four” as of yet check it out and read this stuff.
"Fantastic Four" is fabulous.
Another group of Marvel Comic characters have made it the big screen and in a big way. Fantastic Four opens this Friday, July 7th. The story involves five people that have their DNA changed when a trip to space goes wrong. Four of them are good guys and one is evil. That is the character Victor Von Doom played by excellently by Julian McMahon. With the name Van Doom you know he has to be the bad guy. He eventually becomes Doctor Doom. He shoots off millions of volts of electricity. The good guys are Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic and he is as the one who turns to rubber and can elongate his body. Speaking of bodies Jessica Alba becomes Invisible Women and it's a shame to see her disappear. Chris Evans is hot as "The Human Torch" the one who loves his newfound fame, much to the dismay of the others. Last but not least, "The Thing" a big pile of rocks that underneath you'll find Michael Chiklis giving an incredible performance.
"Fantastic Four" as I said is fabulous and four times as funny. Loads of action and a joke a minute. This is a great ride even if you were never a fan of the comic books. I never read them and went into this film to just see what it was about. I'm glad I went and my wife is too. Here is a movie for not just the self-proclaimed Nerds who follow their adventures but a picture for folks just wanting to have a good time at the movies.

As a sidebar, Michael Chiklis according to an article in the July 3rd New York Times had a therapist on call all the while he was playing "The Thing." The costume that covered ever-visible part of his body took five and a half hours a day to put on. It was so confining and uncomfortable that at times Chiklis didn't think he could go on. Well, he did and his performance is terrific.
Whadda ya nuts?
"War of the Worlds" may be number one at the box office but it may be because its a Steven Spielberg film and not Tom Cruise drawing in the audience. Cruise shot himself in the foot while promoting the film. His rantings about Scientology and his babbling about his love for Katie Holmes just got old. Then his Today Show argument with Matt Lauer over the use of drugs to treat Psychology problems, particularly Brooke Shields post-natal depression really was turn off.
My take is this. Had Cruise not fired his publicist Pat Kingsley this would have never happened. Kingsley has been the number one P. R. person showbiz for years and she was with Cruise from the beginning. He fired her and replaced Kingsley with his sister. To my knowledge she had no experience in the publicity business but is a fellow Scientologist. She obviously has no control over this movie star becoming a loose cannon. You can bet if Pat Kingsley was still in charge of this egomaniac he would not have been jumping up and down on Norah's couch.
By the way, there was a web site www.tomcruiseisnutscom. I don't know if it is still up and running. Seems his manager tried to shut it down.
Finally, Do you find it funny that Brian Graden who is heading up the new gay network, Logo, graduated from Oral Roberts University?
That's thirty for now.
