Critics Can Be Wrong Pink Panther is Funny.

"The Pink Panther"

Steve Martin's Pink Panther is a slapstick comedy that is fall down funny. Non stop laughs for ninety minutes. If your not laughing at Martin's version of the character made famous by Peter Sellers your laughing at the mayhem surrounding him. As straight man to Clouseau Jean Renno turns in a dead on performance.

Unless you have been living in a fallout shelter for fifty years you already know the famous bumbling French detective Jacques Clouseau. His efforts to solve a case just end in one comic disaster after another. In the Martin version he is assigned the case of finding the missing Pink Panther diamond whose owner, a famous soccer coach is murdered. One of the suspects is his girlfriend, played by Beyonce Knowles. Who despite her incredible beauty isn't a bad actress. Clouseau and partner follow her to New York. Giving Martin even more chances to play. Let's just put it this way, Steve Martin plays a brilliant "Jerk." Take the family, everyone will have a lot of laughs.

Off to the Oscars. Here are my predictions with no frills. And the Oscar goes to:

Best Picture
"Brokeback Mountain"

Best Director
Steven Spielberg
"Munich"

Best Actor
Heath Ledger
"Brokeback Mountain"

Best Actress: a Tie
Felicity Huffman
"Transamerica"

Reese Witherspoon
"Walk The Line"
I'm leaning towards Felicity

Supporting Actor
Paul Giamatti
"Cinderella Man"

Supporting Actress
Francis McDormand
"North Country"

Most embarrassing moment and this isn't about the movies. It goes to Jimmy Carter and the others that used Coretta Scott King's "Homecoming Celebration" as they called it, as a political platform. Former President Carter should have more class and dignity than to use his chance at microphone in front of Mrs. King's coffin to blast President Bush's wire tapping issue. There is a time and place for everything and that was neither.

In 1968, when Martin Luther King was laid to rest there were no TV news channels. In fact if I recall there wasn't even live coverage. What you had in this case was everyone that could find their way to that lectern to get their quick shot at fame. The entire show, and that is what it was lasted six hours. Smartly, the news channels dumped out early. In Atlanta the locals stayed with it the entire long time. I think if Mrs. King could have left she would have.

One of our trips in December was to "Sandals Montego Bay." What a great time. i really recommend it. My wife Lisa bought the shells in the photo. She was amazed how you could put the shell to your ear and really hear the ocean. I told her maybe it's because the ocean is right behind us.
