79th Annual Academy Awrds

As someone who covered the Academy Awards for CNN for over decade I think I can make a few predictions about this year.

Bill Tush A.K.A. “The Brain of the Future.”

Best Picture – “The Departed”

Best Actor- Peter O’Toole “Venus”

Best Actress- Helen Mirren, “The Queen”

Best Supporting Actor – Eddie Murphy, “Dreamgirls”

Best Supporting Actress- Jennifer Hudson, “Dreamgirls” I also predict that Ms Hudson will suffer the Oscar Curse. That is where you win first time out of the box and then never be able to top yourself again.

This will certainly be the year Martin Scorsese wins his Oscar as Best Director. His film “The Departed” is wonderful.

Now let’s see how I do Feb. 25th. As I always say at the end of these things. If my predictions don’t pan out. Hey! What do I know.?

We'll always have Paris

Happy New Year.

We spent New Year’s Eve in Paris. In fact we spent ten days and all of our money. The entire trip came about when we attended the “Captain Planet Foundation” Christmas party. As is always the case there was an auction and one of the items was five nights at the Le Grand Hotel and roundtrip first class on Delta. Well, wouldn’t you know it my wife Lisa has always wanted to go there. So I’m several sheets to the wind and raise my hand and bid. Lucky me, I win.

Turns out Lisa’s cousin Tommy Roe and his wife Rosette are there and inform us they will be in Paris for New Years and why don’t we join them. Next thing I know there we are. It was a great time and if Hillary Clinton is elected President we’re moving there.

Tommy Roe by the way is the singer songwriter who had such hits in the sixties as “Shelia,” “Dizzy,” “Sweet pea” and more. He is a terrific guy and his wife, who is French is quite character and knows everybody in showbiz. I wish I could share some of the stories but I don’t want any lawsuits.

The following photo is in front of all places, “Harry’s New York Bar.” Of course I would find this joint. Established in 1911 it was the hangout of Ernest Hemingway and other famous writers.

The fellow next to me is Neal Ford who we met along with his girlfriend at Harry’s one night. Neal lives in Paris and we all became great friends and he took us to all of the spots we would have never gotten to.
